Zepbound and Mounjaro have different uses
As of September 26, 2026, Zepbound (tirzepatide) is FDA-approved for long-term weight control in adults who meet its rules.
The Food and Drug Administration is known as the FDA. This US agency checks medicines before giving approval.
The weight approval covers adults with obesity, meaning a high level of excess body weight, or overweight with a related health problem.
The official medicine instructions, called the label, say to use Zepbound while eating fewer calories (the energy in food) and being more physically active.
As of the same date, Mounjaro (tirzepatide) has approval to treat type 2 diabetes, which involves high blood sugar. It does not have approval for weight loss.
